For the past few weeks I can say I have learned so much
while being at southern, I am learning skills I will need to become successful in
my future to come. Last week’s class notes talked about setting and achieving
goals in one’s life, and not taking skills. I found these very useful because
everyone needs help with those to areas when they are just getting into
college. The ability to set and achieve goals in college is so important
without it; it’s difficult; this is something that brought interest to me
because this is true. While in college you have to set goals and achieve them
because without setting goals you will most likely fall behind. I think of this
as part of time management, if you give yourself two goals to be completed a
week will help. The readings also talked about enjoying student life, sometime
it may seem impossible to do so, which is what I believed but anything is
possible.
“Confidence translated into an ability to conceive and develop
experiments.”
Everyone needs a balance and to worry about getting focused
on getting good with a regular infusion. I do find it hard sometimes to make
time to enjoy my life in college when I have to study and work most of my time.
Down the line I’m sure it will come better with time management.
This week’s readings talked about “Grit”. Grit means to
stick with things over the very long term until you master them. As being a
college student we will face a lot of struggles and challenges but one thing we
can’t do is put it off to the side and wait till later to do something. Angela
Duckworth had developed the “Grit scale” to measure ones intelligence.
“Setbacks don't discourage me.” – Grit test
I believe everyone should have at least one setback so that
they will come back stronger. Have you ever watched a sport on TV and there was
a player that had one bad game. Everyone is expecting that player to have
another bad game to follow but that player comes back even stronger, because of
their set back. I think ones setback will be the best to bring them back to
reality that just because they are doing good does not mean you can just slack off,
but you have to keep working and getting better at it. I was once told, “One
does not know the world until they have been blind” Which I find this to be so
meaning full. No one knows everything and no one can act as they do, because
there is always something new to learn.
