Autonomy
means to have independenceorfreedom. This
to me relates back to college students. Unlike High school we now have the
freedom to choose what we want in life now as long as we make the right
decision. As to the independence part there is no one that is going to call you
parents when you deiced no to go class, but now it is one you. When you make a
bad chose that is now you own fault we are in charge of ourselves.
Two other words that I have heard this
week were Data and equivalent. Data means information
that is gathered to prove a point of something. Data also means “something
given”. Equivalent is the comparison of two items that are seen to be the same.
Two things that are thought to be of equal value
First semester is almost complete and I can
say time did fly by really fast. As finals are approaching most students that I
know are stressed out. Finals can be a very stressful time of the year for most
students. I can say that I was stressed in the beginning but now that I have
managed my time better I think that I will do just fine. Since I work and go to
school it was hard for me to find time to just sit down and study. But now that
I use my time wisely while on campus in between my classes I found time to
study. A lot of students I know decided to study in study groups which will
help many students pass their exams. For myself I found it easier to study and
practice on my own. I will ensure success by making sure I don’t over study and
that I do get a lot of sleep.
Even though this time of the semester is
hard and stressful being able to relieve your stress will come in handy when
you are studying.
One thing that I am making sure I don’t do
is cram for the finals last minute. When I was in high school I always waited
till last minute to study because there wasn’t as much material to go over. Now
that I am in college my past ways of studying that will not fly by anymore. The
work load is different I can say, but once you learn how to manage your time to
the way it fits your needs you are sure to succeed.
Who would have thought that the first semester would
fly by that fast, we are one inch closer to being college sophomores. I can say
even though I haven’t been at Southern for very long but I have learned so much
that will help me succeed in the rest of my college years to come.
After watching my peers as well as my own rough
draft video for our final project, I have seen so many different problems that
are faced. There are a lot of different ways one may handle a problem but that
all depends on how they manage their time. As the semester comes to an end
there are a lot more problems that one can face. While being at SCSU I have
learned many things but the biggest that that I have learned while watching
these videos was how to use my creativity in a different way. In my final video
I have a lot more to add; so far I have gotten good response and the advice
that I was given will help me a lot. A few things that I will add are more
slides with information and I will also add a skit showing the right way to
study and the wrong way. There are many other little things that I plan on
adding it.
When I think about creativity there are so many ways
that It can be brought out, but everyone is different they might see it as
something different and interoperate it different that myself and others. So
far all of the drafts that I have seen did have a lot of creativity and information
and watching those drafts has helped me into completing my project and has
given me ideas on how to finish and create I good end of the semester video.
The one day that I have been talking about for weeks has finally happened. Thanksgiving is one of my favorite Holidays not one because all the food, but because my family is all together. Ever thanksgiving before we have dinner if some people can wait and control their selves; we all sit in a circle and say what we are thankful for and why. This year it was very touching more than the previous years because my nieces, nephews and little cousins were the ones to start it off. I remember my Eight year old niece saying, "I'm thankful for everyone being here today and we can all get along and share the food that we love the most. I'm thankful for my Mom, my aunt Brittney, all my uncles my Nana and Papa and for all my family for loving each other."
I looked around the room and seen some people had started to tear up because no matter what happens with family members we will always be there for each other. Shortly after we had are "Tradition" I decided to do my mom a favor. She wanted a new T.V. for her room so I decided to go to Wal-Mart and get a ticket for a 50inch flat screen T.V. when I told my mom she started crying because she was excited.
This semester I can say that I have learned a lot, even when
I thought I wasn’t going to remember something surprisingly I do. I just want
to say thank you to all my Professors for sticking with me and helping me threw
the struggles that I have encountered. It will help me succeed better in life.
The few things that I am very thankful for this semester as it is coming to an
end is my professors, the new friends that I have made and my family for
helping support me.
When it comes to my family, a lot of them have not made it
to college so the pressure was on me, but my family has faith in me. They know
that I will do what it takes to make it threw and I know that they will be with
me every step of the way. Threw all my struggles they have been there to guide
me to the right path. My family means a lot to me, an all I want to do is make
them proud in the next few years.
Out of all the things that I have learned this semester I can
say having motivation has helped me a lot. If it wasn’t for me having the
motivational drive that I have I wouldn’t try for half of the things that I have
achieved. I wouldn’t have learned anything that I have learned but I can say
motivation has been the push that I needed. Sometimes when it comes to homework
I do get lazy and don’t feel like doing it, but thenthink to myself I’m not going to achieve anything
but just giving up before I tried. This has worked very well for me because now
one of my goals has been achieved and that was to get good grades. Even though I
had a rough start but because the motivation that I had it pushed me to be
better and show everyone what I can do.
Threw out the semester I have ran into a lot of stress
related issues but I have managed to overcome all of them. Everyone has their
own ways to handle stress it can be the simplest things that could change someone’s
mood. For me the few things that have made it easy for me to deal with stress
are listening to music, writing poems, taking walks and talking with
family/friends.
Music is a big part of my life, ever since I was little I would
just dance and sing around the house not knowing the meaning of the song but it
made me happy. Now that I am older and music has evolved a lot since I was
little, the songs that help me relieve stress was music that was created around
the time I was born. This might sound odd but if it wasn’t for music I wouldn’t
be where I am today (I believe).
Next to music talking with my family and friends is the
biggest stress relieve to me. I remember my first few days at Southern I would
call my mom and my sister between classes because I was nervous scared and
stressed. Just hearing them tell me everything was going to be ok reinsured me
that everything was going to be perfect. Now that I am settled in more I meet
with my friends and we talk about how our days are going and eat lunch
together. It does help me a lot knowing that my friends and family are there to
support me very step of the way.
Taking walks is the easiest and simplest stress relieve.
Between classes the majority of the time I will put my head phones in and begin
walking normally I would be to a friend’s house that lives close by, but the
walk there just relaxes me. At the same time you’re getting exercise.
Coming up on the last few weeks of the semester I can say
that I have learned a lot and it will follow m threw the rest of my college
years. One word I can say that I have used a lot this semester was the word
Purpose. The meaning for the word Purpose is the reason for which
something is done or created. For an example; everything and everyone has purpose
in life.
Two other words that I learned this week were Navigation
and contain. The word navigation means getting from one destination to
another destination. The word contain means to keep under proper control and or
to restrain.
How will you make your video draft exhibit a high level of
creativity?
Before I start creating my video I will look at my midterm
video and focus on the areas that I will need to improve on. Instead of doing
just interviews I will have to think a little further. In order to make my
Final video meet the high level of creativity I will have to go beyond the
normal creativity. For this video I will decide to make a skit on how students
act during the finals cramming week. I will also interview students and professors
and ask them questions on the final week cramming.
During the skit I will incorporate all aspects of how students
might react to the stress and the work load of studying. I will try to make the
video funny but also I will try to make it educating so the viewers will be
able to learn from the mistakes that will be shown in the video. One thing that
I will not try to do is make it to educational because once that does happen it
will start to get boring and the viewers will see no interest. During the interviews I will try to ask
questions that will be relatable to students so that they will have that
knowledge.
One other thing that I can use is statistics comparing SCSU’s
first year students to other schools and see how SCSU and the other schools of
my choice is coping with the first semester coming to an end.
The end of the semester is coming faster than we know it. It
feels just like yesterday I was studying for midterms. For one final project I have
to create a video. In order to do well on my final video project I would have
to compare how I set up my time for my midterm video to how I can set up my
time now. Once I do that I would then have to look at the errors I made and
figure out ways to improve so I can make my final video meet the standards.
The topic of my Final Video is: Final’s week and cramming.
This is something that as well as myself but my peers will be fighting threw.
Finals week can be very stressful and frustrating but one thing that we all
must remember is to keep calm and manage are time. Some of the ways I can make
my video draft exhibit a high level of college-thinking is that I will find on
campus statistics and information about cramming during the exams. I will also
compare SCSU to other colleges in the state on how the students cope and manage
to make it threw finals week. One other thing that I will do is go to the Office
of Study Skills Enrichment and talk with someone about information and
statistics on students and cramming.
I know that once I start my video project there will be a
lot of information that I will come up with which will help me prepare for finals
week. One other thing I can do is follow around two older classmen’s and see
what advice they would give and how the prepare for finals week. (With permission
of course)
There are many talents in the world that go undiscovered.
Some people might not think they are good at something when they truly are. One
person talent could be a stress relieve, it can also be how someone expresses
their selves to someone. Someone talent can be the one thing that separates
them from everyone else which is important in college not everyone wants to be
like everyone else.
Who would think that at my college we would have so much
talent? On Wednesday in the Ballroom, there was a talent show that was held.
Seeing all the talent in SCSU was shocking, some performances took away my
breath, some left me in tears and some even left me in laughter. From all the
different talents that some people have would leave someone wanting to say, “Wow
you did great!” I just wish I could have went up to everyone and told them how
good of a job they have done. Growing up with music being close to my heart,
and hearing someone preform some songs that I know myself was just amazing. I
could say that the original performers of the songs would be very proud.
One of the performers at the talent show was someone that I have
known since I was young. Not know the song that was going to be performed left
me in tears. Growing up with this person and at that moment I seen how much music
can influence someone to do great things was amazing. Since we were young I would
give him tips and advice on him he could improve and right then he showed me
how far my advice had gone.
A few questions that I could come up with from this week’s
reading on Liberal Arts Education were:
1.Why is Liberal Arts Education so important?
2.How could you compare Liberal Arts Education to
growth mindset?
3.In what ways will someone benefit from a Liberal
Arts Education?
Out of all the questions that I have come up with the one
that I would believe to be at more college level than the other questions that I
had come up with is question two “How could you compare Liberal Arts Education
to growth mindset?”
The reason that I have chosen question was because yes
anyone can answer it but you can go in depth with the question. First you would
have to know what growth mindset is; someone’s most basic abilities can be
developed through dedication and hard work. Then you would have to know what
Liberal Arts Education is; taking extra classes when it is not recommended for
your major so that you have more knowledge. When comparing the two you could realize
that they are not focused on just one topic at hand. They are focused on going
outside of the box and not just doing what is needed. When it comes to the
reality of things the way that the world is enhancing at every moment in time
it can be hard to keep up. If we stay one step ahead and taking the extra
classes we will know more than some.
When it comes time for all of us to go into the career field
that we chose they won’t just look at the classes you did take and what you do
know, but they will want to know they extra that is not needed. For an example at
the job that I work at it is in the Food industry they were not focused on what
classes I take but it caught there attention that I did cheerleading. They had seen
that I had that extra spunk that they were looking for. Which does pay off in
the long run, so not matter what you are studying they best thing to do is take
the extra classes that you don’t think you will need. Sooner or later when it
comes to a situation where you need that knowledge on the class you didn’t take
because you “didn’t need it” you will need it then.
Since we could remember the majority of us would agree that
we have questioned why we are learning something. We would think how this will
apply to my life at some other time. More than we would know it but everything
follows us for the rest of our lives. For example if you discover you are allergic
to something, will you try again to eat that thing or will you remember you
were allergic to the item. Once you have done something you will remember that
thing.
Why did we all chose SCSU? Was it because we learn more than
what we need for our major. Is it the fact that we are learning about what we
will need to survive once we make it out of college? Might it even be that SCSU
offers what some colleges might not which is developing their student’s academics?
These are all good questions but it
comes down to Liberal arts education, which will prepare us for all that we
will need to know.
The importance of liberal arts education is that it does not
prepare you just for your major and the field of work you plan on going into
but it gives you the out of the box learning. It does not focus on just one
thing, but it gives us a piece of knowledge to know a bit of everything. Some
people whose major might be nursing, might questions why they have to take a
History class or etc. But when it comes further down the line we will only be
able to understand the reason behind it.
What does this mean for student that chose to go to SCSU?
You can think of this as if southern is preparing its students for the real
world. It is also giving their students a more open education instead of focusing
them on one topic which is their majors. In high school I as well as others
would think to ourselves when we are going to need this in life. When the truth
is that our education follows us for the rest of our lives. Many of us wouldn’t
realize this but every day we come across situations that we have learned how
to handle since grade school. When it is easy to pick up and remember how to
do, we have already learned this and we then notice that our education will
follow us and help us threw everyday situations.
Innovation is when you
are introducing something new. This can vary from objects to ideas. This also
means when you are making everyone aware of something that they normally
wouldn't have found awareness of. For example new businesses need to welcome in
new innovations to keep employees as well as customers coming it.
Two other words that I have learned this week are research
and create. Research is when you look around for information and evidence to
back up what you believe in. Also it means look further and in more depth than
what others have found to give people updated information. Create is when you
look into your mind a picture something and bring it to life. This happens to
everyone everyday more than most people would think. When you are writing you
are creating, creating can be visual, mental, and emotional and what most
people will know as physical. Also to create it can be to make something
better.
The night before Halloween at 8pm one special Lady had
walked into SCSU’s Lyman hall, to share with us what many others would not
know. To share with us pictures and footage that most of America has not and
for most will not see. This lady is a neighbor to most, but for me she is someone
I have been waiting to meet for years.
Standing in line to walk into Lyman and meet someone that I look
up to. Lorraine warren was going to be at my school what a surprise. She is
coming to SCSU, the excitement that I had felt but along with fear. Hearing
everything that she has done in her life and what has happened to her had me
sitting in my seat anxious. I have been waiting for this day for so very long
to see who this lady is who investigate so many homes in search for what the
eyes cannot see. Ever since I was little I have always wanted to meet and paranormal
investigator and the fact that I have done such amazes me. The one thing that I
will never forget was at almost the near of the presentation what my eyes have
seen I will never forget. With my own eyes I seen footage of a real exorcism,
even though I was not able to get a good sleep for days I do not regret going
at all.
This set the mood for Halloween which made it just the right
timing, so I had to go. When everyone heard that Mrs. Warren was coming to SCSU
everyone got their ticket. This will be an event that I will always remember.
Now that we are in college we have to rethink about how we
will make it through the years to come. Since we are all mostly just leaving
high school we will still sometimes act and thing as such. It will only take
time for us to get the full effect of being in college; some might be quicker
to catch on then others. That is ok because we are in college to learn how to
make it in life. Preparing for what is going to be on a college level exam is
not easy for most of us, because we are used to high school level thinking.
After reading threw a few of my fellow peer’s blogs one of the blogs have
caught my attention to what I believe to be a college level questions.
To me these questions seem as if you can answer them but you
have to think deep within. Comparing these to questions from high school no one
would expect them to be on a quiz or exam. The way this blogger asks the
questions in depth it amazes me and shows me that all I have to do is think
beyond what I know I can do. The questions are not open ended so if someone didn’t
do the reading they wouldn’t be able to just guess and write down anything. For
these questions one has to do the reading to get the right answer. That is
where I believe this blogger has such strong questions because they are making
it so that if the person didn’t do the reading they will not be able to just
guess. This will show students that they do have to do the reading because
sometimes you never know how the professor will setup his or her exam.
Some high schools would make the quizzes and exams work for
the student but what they don’t realize by doing so they are making the student
think this is how it will always be. High school teachers don’t push students
beyond the limit of where they need to be, instead they try to help them find
the easy way out. What I can learn from this exercise is that I need to push
myself to the limit to prove to myself that I can do and think as a college
student should instead of finding an easy way out.
11 weeks ago I started my first day at SCSU. It seems just
like yesterday I was still in high school. For the past 11 weeks I have been
taking notes and reading articles and what I have done was came up with 4
questions that I would think to be on an quiz or test for my class. The
questions that I have come up with are:
1. When we ignore how innovation works, why does it make what
is happening right in front of us hard to see?
2. What is fear of disconnection? Why do some people fear
losing social media the most?
3. Out of the 32 innovations which is believed to be the most
helpful to everyday life?
4. Why is it that we overlook the important role on
inspiration?
Out of all of these the one that I think will be on a quiz
or test is:
“What is fear of disconnection?
Why do some people fear losing social media the most?”
Fear of disconnection is when one person fears of being
alone and by themselves. It is also the fear of being alone, disconnected and forgotten.
The reason why I believe this question will be on a quiz or
test is because this can be more of a survey like questions where there can be
a variety of answers but they all lead back to one main goal. Even though this
is an open question this can be narrowed down to just one answer, which will be
the pattern for most people. When I thought of this question it made me think
of teens and technology. The reason to this is because most teens love their
cellphones. Which this can become a problem, since teens have grown up with
cellphones and technology when they get there phone taken away they will be
upset.
That is why teens fear losing technology more than anyone
else because that is how they keep in contact with everyone. Even though this
can also be a positive thing because technology has evolved to the point where
people can do homework online or go to school online. Some people do live for their
technology.
Critical thinking is when you use all your knowledge to try
and figure something out. When you go beyond the rational reason and find a
more in depth meaning then what you were expecting to get. This can be applied
to everyday life and mainly it can be applied to everyday college life for
students. We all are trying to figure out what we want in life but the truth is
there is many different paths to take. So if we use critical thinking before choosing
something in life, we can find the right path.
Two other words I learned this week are Value and Agent.
Value is the meaning of something and how much something means to one person. Agent
is a person who acts on the behalf of someone else. To represent the person and
prove them for who they are.
When Sonya Sotomayor came to Southern I was thrilled to know
that she was coming to my school to speak and answer questions myself and my
fellow peers had for her. There was many more questions that could have been
asked but there was not a lot of time. Even though I did not go to the Lecture,
the stories that I have heard from my friends and others students speak about
was thrilling. It made me feel as if I was there. The fact that she had battled
and concord all her mistakes and setbacks made me see that I can do that
myself. When she had talked about failure as if it wasn’t a bad thing but it is
a lesson learn situation it felt as if she was connecting with us. She has been
in our shoes before and she can relate and give us advice on what we should and
shouldn’t do.
When she said, “to make sure that we are well rounded
students, and not to be afraid to take other classes that aren’t in our major’s
curriculum, just to see what life is.” It made me and other think about what we
really wanted to do in life, since registration time for classes is coming up.
"In order to succeed, your desire for success should be
greater than your fear of failure." - Bill Cosby
Walking into my class for my first midterm I was nervous.
Wondering if all the studying and preparing would do me any good; hoping I was
going to pass with flying grades. For some classes this was the case, but for
one it was not. Even though this was the class I studied the hardest for and
spent the most time preparing, for some reason when I sat down everything began
to turn into a blur. It wasn’t that I wasn’t ready it was that I second guess
myself and end up getting it wrong. That’s one thing I can say I struggle on,
but I have gotten better. All my classes I can say the grades that I have gotten
is what I expected, besides one class.
For how I planned on being threw this year I feel that I am
in the place I should be. I have worked hard and tried my best to get where I am,
and there Is only room for more improvement. I need to work harder on getting
my work handed in on time, and trying to focus between work and school and make
sure I get what I need done first. There are many goals that I have set for
myself over the years but now during college the goals that I set are the goals
that count. These will be the goals that will be able to make a stand in my
life, the goals that will put me into a further place in life. The goals that I
ill set for myself for the second half of the semester will be the goals that
will help me to succeed and make it to where I need to go.
Would you say for your first year of college you mastered at something? But what does that truly mean, to master at something. Well I had to do some looking because the definition I believed to be it didn't fit. So after figuring out and asking around I combined all the answers I got and but them together. To master at something is when you are in full command of the situation and you fully understand everything. So the question still wondering around have you mastered at something your first year of college?
Two other words this week I learned was rights and debate. Rights is something that someone stands up for when they believe something is wrong. When they feel that they are getting treated unfair. Debate is an argument when two people argue a point that thy want to get across.
One thing that is great about SCSU is that it has its very own gym for students and faculty. Instead of worrying about paying a monthly fee and the money being taken out at last minute when you thing you have money still in your account until you card doesn’t do threw. Yes it has happened to me before, it is sad to say. Losing $20+ dollars a month for a gym that I hardly go to is a waste of my money. Instead I found it the right time to find a gym that is more convenient and not so harsh on my money. Southern has just that to offer. When I first signed up with my gym I paid about $120+ dollars just for signing up! Which was crazy, SCSU gym is just have that cost for a semester it is only $60.00 and during the summer they have a promotion where it is only $25.00. You cant really beat that, and for the students like myself who have hours worth of breaks in between class there hours of operation is something you should get to know:
Monday – Thursday 7am-10pm
Friday 7am-8pm
Saturday 9:30am-4:30pm
Sunday 2pm-7pm
This gym is just one of the many ups that this school has to offer, that is why I am glad I chose SCSU as my home away from home.
(I couldn't get a picture or video of me working out)
During Orientation every incoming freshman received a book.
“My Beloved World”, by Sonia Sotomayor. This was not any ordinary book, but a
book about how some ones struggles and pains can bring them so far. I can say
this book was well written and touching. This book always had the reader on the
edge of their seat wondering what could happen next. The struggle that Sonia
Sotomayor had to undergo growing up was just amazing that someone could come
out so strong.
I believe this book was chosen as a Common Read for my class
because this book tells about some persons struggles can take them far. In the
book it talked about all the struggles and setbacks she had faced and look
where she is now. These setbacks and struggles can bring someone to the top of
the world and achieve. One thing that I as well as my pairs can apply to our
first year of college from the book is that no matter what happens you can
overcome anything. No matter how big or how small if you fight and stand up for
what you believe you can win at anything. Everyone in their first year of
college runs into problems but if you believe hard enough you can face it.
For me one thing that
I have had to experience was putting myself to the test. When I say this I mean
pushing myself to the limit was I know I should be. It wasn’t easy at first and
I’m pretty sure that almost everyone can agree on this that adjusting to a different
surrounding isn’t so easy. After reading this book I can say it will help you
face and win over you struggles. I would say this book is great for every
incoming student to read.
The reason why these two blogs stand out is because they have put their own style into their blogs and made it very interesting as a reader to read. The first blog that I had read I would give an A+ because not only are all their blogs well written and good to read. Their blog that stands out the most to me is their blog called “No matter the Distance (6V)” I feel that this one blog relates to everyone that has every had to leave someone, due to many reasons. Reasons being that it is because most students are from out of state. In all of her blogs she puts in a little story about her self so the reader can see a personal aspect of it.
The second blog that I have chosen to get an A+ was very much interesting as the first one. As soon as I opened their blog page, it was a blog about a popular MTV TV show called Guy code and Girl code. I have seen both of these shows so immediately my attention was grabbed. Both of these shows show the views of girls and guys on certain topic, and the fact that she had went to this event on campus was amazing! I think the main reason why I chose this blog was because all the pictures and blogs catch my attention, which isn’t easy to do. I also feel that as well as in the other blog they relate the blogs to them so we see a personal aspect of it.
These two blogs as well as all the others are very well written, I think everyone can say comparing are blogs from when we started we all have bloomed to be very good bloggers. Just reading these blogs you can find out all the fun things and great things that SCSU has to offer to their students.
Everyone has heard this word, but does anyone know what this truly means? Well failure means to not be able to accomplish something. Also it means not being able to do something to someone else or your standards. I to me the word "Fail or Failure" should not be in ones vocabulary because the word doesn't exist to me. No one is perfect at anything so you cant really say to someone that they are a failure. Two other words I have learned this week was objectification and concepts. objectification means to think of a person as an object and to take advantage of someone. Concepts means the general idea of something.
Thursday October 10th was the day every SCSU student was excited for, mainly freshmen's. Homecoming ! 9pm - 1am is all everyone could think about. Walking up to the Ballroom in the students center and seeing the line reach all the way down the hall with people dressed up for the party. Excite and anxious to get in, as soon as you walk into the ballroom a wall of heat would hit you and that when I knew everyone was having fun. Running into classmates was the highlight of my night, seeing them outside the normal everyday clothing and dressed up amazed me.
My part of the night I can say was the best for me was when the Dj gave yelled out, "Happy birthday to Brittney Benjamin" I was so surprised that my friends had done that for me. When you are having fun time seems goes by fast, I looked down at my phone an it said 1:00 am. Sad to leave the party everyone walked back to the cars or dorms tired and worn out from the party. I can say my first college Homecoming was a success !
“Success is not measured by what you accomplish, but by the
opposition you have encountered, and the courage with which you have maintained
the struggle against overwhelming odds.”
Orison - Swett Marden
Coming into college I thought it was going to be a breeze,
and not so much of a challenge. But I was wrong. I have had some struggles but
I have been able to build my way back up. At times I felt as if I was knocked
down by the work load. From the stories I heard from my friends about people
dropping out and not making it threw their first year. I always said to myself,
“It can’t be that hard” this was my saying this in high school where the work
load was nowhere near what I had back then. In high school I found myself doing
homework for about an hour or to a night and I thought that was hard.
The truth is that in high school depending on where some of
us went, we had it made for ourselves. Nothing was truly hard back then, but
now that we are for the most part alone doing our work for ourselves. But now
that I am in college I can say that I find myself doing homework for hours at
night on one class. The class that I can say I struggle in the most as of now
is math, the work isn't that hard, it’s just the way I am use to learning. All
my homework is online and we don't go over it at all, I thought this was how
every class was but my friends that are in the same level math told me they
have book work. So I learned it depends on the professor. No matter how hard
the struggle will get for me and as well as my peers I can say we all ill
manage to build are way up.
This book I read in high school called “Broken China” by
Lori Aurelia Williams inspired me to never give up no matter how hard it gets.
The book was about a teen mother named China Cameron that tried her best to be
a good mother to her two year old daughter Amina even when she didn’t want her
child at first. At the age of two Chinas daughter had passed away while she was
in school due to an illness. Shortly after China was forced to drop out of
school to get money to have a funeral for her child so she had to find a job,
but she was only 14 years old no place would hire here besides a strip club.
This book showed me that things in life can change and be taken away from you
in a blink of any eye but you can never give up on your dreams. No matter how
hard it may get through the struggle you have to make the right choice for you.
"Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how
close they were to success when they gave up." Thomas A. Edison
Some people might say that failing is unacceptable, which
this is not true at all. In order to make it somewhere in life you have to
fail.
When it comes to the topics, is it ok for kids to fail some
might not know how to answer this. Keep in mind that no one is perfect,
everyone messes up and it’s human to do so. You can’t protect someone from failure
no matter how hard you try it just isn't possible. If you try to protect your
kid from failure, you are making them see no matter what you have to be
perfect. Doing this will affect the child and make them see the world for only
being perfect, which no wrongs. This not the world that we live in, no one is
perfect. Also, I feel that every place is a safe place to fail.
If you think of failing as help, what I mean by this is in
order to succeed you need to fail. Once you get knocked down, you have to build
back up, and you will succeed once you get back on your feet.
This reminds me of
the movie Aladdin, in the movie he was seen as a poor person and had nothing
going for him. Even though this movie might be a child’s classic movie, Aladdin
did fail. He failed at being a good friend and treating and using Genie as if he
had done nothing for him. Soon after Aladdin did realize the way he was acting
was wrong he turned around and changed his actions. The truth about the movie
is that he did fail many times at trying to be perfect and make everyone see
him as such. At the end of the movie my favorite part was when he set Genie
free.
Genie was confused why he would do such a thing, the reason
behind him doing this was after all the times him trying to be perfect and
prove himself as something he is not, he now showed that he has a heart and he succeeded
to show everyone he can do something right. To my belief in order to succeed at
something you have to fail.
Every one has Persistence,
most people were born with it and most people developed it. This word means to
not give up at something, to keep trying and to keep at it. No one gives up
easy; we give it a few goes before onegives
up. This reminds me of the movie Finding Nemo. The part of the movie that I am most referring to is when Dori starts to sing, "Just keep swimming" no matter what danger they are about to face Dori still has faith that they will find Nemo. This part of the movie can teach someone so much, not to give up no matter what happens and keep fighting for what you want in life.
Two other words that i have learned this week was assumption and overriding. Assumption means to guess before knowing the full story of what is going on or what happened. Overriding means to move over something and to take control of the situation.
