Delayed Gratification is the ability to wait or to be patience. Not everyone has this some people want things done when they want it done. There have been studies to test the theory; if you can wait for a treat you will be successful in life. If you couldn’t wait for the treat then you would not do as well as the others that could wait. Other words that I have learned this week were objectification and hostility. Objectification means to be viewed as an object and not a person. Hostility means to express be self’s negatively.

"Come Join Are Club"

This is all I heard coming from every direction, every club trying to get people to sign up  for there club. Two club that drew my intrest was the West Indies club and ProCon.

The West Indies club drew my attention because I want to learn about another culture threw not just telling me what the culture is about but threw dance and other activities. One of my goal that I set for myself coming into college was to join a club where I could do culture dance. They meet every Wednesday at 1. Since I found one club that drew my instrest I had to find another.

ProCon is a club I had to join, everyone has heard about "Peanut butter and Jelly Thursdays" they are the ones to put it all together. The meet every Monday at 1 in the student center. If you love to eat this is the club for you to join, there is nothing like food mainly when is free and you are on a college students budget. But this club is not just about

Would the test be affected if someone was just hungry?

This is one of the questions I have come up with for my inquiry question this week. What if the test subject didn’t eat around the time the test was going to be given and was growing hungry? When they see the food/sweet there taste buds go crazy so now they are starving and are more tempted to eat. If they wait the reward will be greater than what is on the table, the debate is on. Eat now and not wait or wait and get more, but it’s a 15 minute wait can I do this? Not everyone is the same at least some people I know will grab the food right then and there just to satisfy the hunger for the time being.

Everyone has heard this song from their childhood for the most part, “Who stole the cookie from the cookie jar.” This song reminds me of the marshmallow test. If you put someone’s favorite treat or food in front of them and they will be tempted to eat it. It’s there one weakness, and it is hard to fight the temptation. But if you ask me this test doesn’t test the ability of one’s gratification. This test to me studies how patient someone can be, I don’t think this one test will be able to determine how successful someone will be in the future. Say if one of the test subjects had passed the test but took a complete 360 and didn’t do well in their future what does that say about the test? Just testing people with food won’t show you anything about their gratification, but it will show you who is hungry and who can wait to eat and get more food.

Stop the wait! I want it now!!

Everyone gets the gitters when it comes to waiting for a long time. How long is really long? Minutes can feel like hours days like weeks and so on and so forth. Have you ever ordered something online and shipping says maybe a week? Just because you know it says a week you will make it feel as if it’s about a month. It’s all in you mindset and how bad you want something. I know at least for me I am not a very patient person either I get it soon or I don’t want it. It’s a bad habit but I have broken it some times before.

One day I was at the DMV (department of motor vehicles) to get my I.D. I was waiting for what seemed to feel like days but all together I was really only waiting about three hours at the most. Its not the first time this has happened to me, it’s very often I will get impatience and lose interest. I have mastered this now I will start thinking about something out that will kill time while I am waiting. For the most part it does work but it can only take up so much time.

I feel that some people have more patients then others it really just depends on the person and the situation. If that person was brought up to the point where they don’t need to wait for anything, then growing up they will have problems with being patient. For the people that were brought up to wait and have patients when they grow up they wont have an issue waiting. I believe technology might have some play in this because say for instance you are doing a homework assignment instead of looking for information in the book you use Google to get answers. Even when typing a paper for an assignment you have spell check for the most part Technology does most of the work for people now days.

Strive, Success and Win!

When you hear these words what do you imagine? A finish line but you can’t have a finish line without motivation. If you really think about it you wouldn't have much of anything that you have now if you didn't have any motivation. To me motivation means more than succeeding it means that you have set a goal for yourself and you have achieved that goal. Growing up I was always a busy child I was never able to stay in one place to long. I see myself doing everything I could possibly do and I did just that. When you give yourself motivation you will be able to learn more rather than someone else trying to motivate you. It’s a goal and achievement you set for yourself and once you show yourself you can do anything you set to mind you will achieve every time.

#21.  My Big Masterpiece

Walking around campus you can find a bunch of art, but by looking at building that just looking amazing. One thing stood out to me, which was the sun dial. It is located right outside of Engleman Hall. I tried to find out who designed it but there was no luck. Looking up to the sin dial and just seeing the light shine off of the silver metal background I can only say Man I wish it was easy to read it but I can see the numbers. The designer of this building must have put all his/her effort into this and worked hard to accomplish this beautiful master piece.

Am I invisible?
Are my soft spoken words hard for the ear to hear?
Sometimes I can’t tell if I’m being ignored
Or am I just to myself
What’s the different it seems like no one cares?
To hear what these lips need to speak
What these eyes have seen
No one understands the pain the sorrow
The battles I have lost
Am I invisible?
Can you hear me?
Can you see me?
An answer would do just fine.

Ever since I was a child I have been quite and what some people would say the distanced one. No one seems to understand that not everyone is the same. In one way everyone is the same because everyone has that one thing that makes them happy, it can be the smallest thing but it still means the world to them. No matter their mood they will always be able to turn to that one thing and it will improve their mood. My one small thing is Poetry; ever since I was a child I just loved writing poems. It’s the one way I find so easy to express myself and make me happy. You can say it brings me out of my shell in a way. Once I start writing a poem everything becomes so peaceful and clear there is no stop when I start. Everyone feels different about poetry but one thing I can say is everything it poetry in a way. If you think about it if it’s a story, it’s a poem. It’s a life meaning and message. I think if I look at poetry as everything such as homework class work and essays it will help me threw my college. It can even help me further down the line in my future. Even though some people think writing poetry is easy they are mistaken. In middle school I was a leader of my poetry club, myself and others were still learning the basics and still to this day I trip up on my poetry. It’s easy to write a poem but it’s not easy to give it meaning, or a story within a story.

"There is nothing good or bad, but thinking makes it so" – Shakespeare

After sitting down for a while trying to figure out what the meaning of this quote is and how it relates to this week’s Inquiry class it did take a few minutes then it clicked. To me this quote is about how someone takes something for good or bad it all depends on how the person interprets it. From this week’s class discussion about intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation. I believe this quote can be either intrinsic motivation or extrinsic. It can be intrinsic because your view on something is what you feel good or bad it’s all up to yourself, but it can also be extrinsic because someone can tell you about something good or bad and it’s all how you take that as well. This  week’s discussion on fixed mind set and growth mindset it also relates to these because everything is how one makes it for them self’s. If you think of it like this there is no good or bad in the world until we think it.

“The Brains determination of what is meaningful and what is not is reflected not only in the initial perceptual processes but also in the conscious processing of information.”

This meaning of this quote is what you think is what matters not what others can think for you. The world should be a growth mindset world but some people try to make it a fixed mindset and not get out in the world and try new and different things in life.

What is Initiative?

Well I would say initiative is the ability to do something when you are ready, taking the leap and jump first. Everyone is born with is but it is up to them to do with it what they must. Even though this is my starting year in college I would say a lot of people have initiative. A lot of people are eager to learn so they take the first leap.
Greyson Chance - Waiting outside the Lines

Some words that I know but found more in depth about was; nonsensical and exposed. Nonsensical is a new word for me I found out that it means to not make any sense or little sense. Exposed is not so much as a new word but to my belief it only meant for information to get out, but it means more than that. It means more it means to be vulnerable and open to be taken advantage of. I love learning new words each week.

#5 FOOT BALL !

Photo taken from Twitter @SCSU_Owls

Face paint, gear , tshirts and excitement woahhh ! the excitement for Southern Connecticut State University's Foot ball team.  On the first game of the season, even though it was not a victory to win, but it was a victory because they started the season off with an excellent show. I normally don't like seeing people violent but when it comes to football I wish I was a player on the field making touch downs ! I can say that Southern's Football team came out strong for their first game. Sitting in the bleachers hearing everyone and myself cheer was amazing, everyone filled with excitement. Today the SCSU Football team played against the Crimson Hawks (Indiana, Pa.) with an ending score of 30-20 (Crimson won). No matter what win or lose SCSU showed there pride and happiness to play, I can say the one the game before they started playing. I am looking forward to the rest of the games that are coming this fall. LETS GO OWLS !!

Lets set some goals
http://under30ceo.com/already-failed-your-new-years-resolution-heres-a-better-idea/2013-resolutions-setting-goals/

Everyone has set goals in their life time, but how many times have they been reached? Either we forget or we realize later on that the goal wouldn't be completed. It is to common that everyone does this, but it is time for this to stop. It is time for us to set goals for are self and complete them and feel accomplished. It would also make it easier for us to complete our goals if we had a friend that could help us threw the way. So they would keep us on the right track and not taking steps backwards. From the song , Never would have made it by Marvin Sap ; "I made it thru my storm and my test because you were there to carry me thru my mess"
Lyrics taken from http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/m/marvin_sapp/never_would_have_made_it.html

This means so much, when we have that one friend to help us. It feels as if they have helped us threw just about any battle that human can possibly face. They are here to guide us to the impossible and make it possible. I have had some set backs in my own time but its time for change and for me to have my friend guide me. This time my goal will be completed, I will not forget. My goal that I will set for myself is to break out of being shy and  make new friends in all my classes. So far my goal is half way completed, I have made friends in three out of five of my classes. I have also started to break out of my shell slowly, but in dew time I will not be shy. This is all to the help of myself but my friend showing me the way and introducing me to some new friends. Now I can say my next step is talking up more in class, its a big step for me but it needs to be done.

Lets get it right

Over the last week I have read some very interesting blogs and articles, and I compared the ones that I have read to my blog and I can say I was defiantly a new blogger. I still am trying to get my blogging voice. Now that I have took some notes on the blogs that I have read, I will keep in mind to use my own creativity and not worry to much about following the guide lines. The most useful thing I can say that I learned from the blogs that I have read is that everyone is different and has their own writing technique's. Right away I can say I will be using these few steps I have put together for myself:

1 - Be creative

2 - Put yourself into the blog

3 - Use your own experiences

4 - Learn from your mistakes

5 - Blog on

If I follow my own guide lines then I believe I will be an better blogger.

"Have no fear of perfection, you’ll never reach it" Salvador Dali
( http://twistedsifter.com/2012/03/15-famous-quotes-on-creativity/ )

I have ran across this quote as well as many others, and I can say this quote relates to me perfectly. Everyone fears of not being perfect, as well as I did before. Over the years I have realized everyone has there own view of perfection and my view of perfection is being who I am and people will accept me for who I am. From that moment I realized that I know everyone will view perfection as they will.

"like a straw floating with the current down the stream" and added: "The stream was the Bell Telephone Company. I don’t think I will ever be that straw again."

Everyone builds someone up to be perfect and expect for them not to advance in their leaning. One thing they don't understand that when you try to advance someone in their learning they will see the person for who they are and nine out of ten times the teacher turns into the student.
